Pre production materials for Strayed above. The Gantt chart for strayed above. which features the production name and the channel it will be distributed onto which is BBC 3. The production schedule separated within 3 pictures This is the first picture of it.  The second page of our production schedule  The third and final page of our production schedule.   The consents forms are signed by our actors to grant us permission to hold and produce footage with them in it that we have shot. If this was not done then we would not have copy write of the footage and would be unable to use it as we filmed without their consent which can cause a legal and ethical issue within the production of Strayed Above. A consent form to be filmed signed by Abu Taher who acts as Kyle black within the final product A consent form to be filmed signed by me as I act as captain Crain in the product.  ...

How meaning is created in Strayed Above The final media product is in line with client brief due to the visual and special effects. The visual effects applied which include creating a mask path around screens , windows as well as compositing footage to fit within a certain scale. The visual effects show the damage of the  infrastructure to the spaceship as the screens in the spaceship go dark or down meaning the signal has been lost or damaged as before it was working fine before the explosion. The special effects makeup used within the teaser scene as well show how the explosion of the ship has affected crew members such as Kyle Black and in which shows how life is on board the spaceship as communication systems have stopped working and the crew have taken damage. The visual effects also create a sense of realism towards the final product as the visual effects display different space scenes and mask over windows to give the illusion that the characters are in space as we se...

Resolving Legal and Ethical issues When creating this product legal and ethical issues have to be considered for. Such as the music for the show we cannot take a music track which is not royalty free as this is illegal. This will cause complications for the product which might halt the time of production and also might not be able to even screen the show if copyrighted music is heard without the use of a license. The plot and the story of the show can’t be taken from another SCI-FI show as well as this will be just copying ideas and would be stealing another IP’s content for our gain so we should be able to research and create our own ideas for the show while including the brief which was given towards us. The ethical issues that may arise is the use of our makeup since one of our actors is Muslim the use of proper gelatine will go against his beliefs and wouldn’t be allowed so a substitute gelatine will have to be used when creating our special effects. an alternative to using...

Marketing and distribution of Stayed above. The marketing of Stayed above will include the opening sequence of the show as mentioned in the brief this will be displayed on adverts on the BBC 3 platform as trailers or short snippets or scene from the show saying Strayed Above coming soon. This will also be on other social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube this will entice the audience and will make them go onto the BBC 3 platform and search and watch the show. This will be done by placing the opening sequence onto twitter and youtube and this will allow viewers to share the content to others thus gaining attraction. The stills from the opening sequence can also be used as posters to be placed on Facebook with the opening sequence underneath to let the audience know who is playing who. The opening sequence will be a bit different towards the show actual one as in the end it will feature the log-line and will make the audience question and watch the show to fi...

Production materials for Strayed Above  A photo of me filming a scene for the opening sequence where I had to film the ceiling while moving on a chair.  A photo of me capturing shots of our spaceship model to use in after effects later on. A photo of me using the after effects software to add visual effects to our footage we filmed A photo of me using a camera to capture a shot.  Here are photos of me filming certain scenes for our final product. The first picture on the left is a photo of me using a chair for a tracking/dolly shot of the ceiling for our opening sequence. I had to move slowly to get the shot of the ceiling moving in a straight line as this is in the storyboard a tracking dolly shot is mentioned and to avoid the of damage equipment or bumping into stuff a spotter who was in front of me watching out for me and steering me in the right direction to get the shot. The spotter prevents me from injury since I am looking up with the...

The first picture of the sketched panels used to show the visual effects within the scene with our scale model. The 2nd page of the sketched panels The sketch panels were made to incorporate the visual effects that were going to be used in front of our special effects. In this case was our scale model in planned format. The sketch panels helped us figure out how we wanted the ship to be placed and the footage we will need for the background for our spaceship. The images can be moved around and placed so they are placed in set format so they can be changed to fit better later on if needed.   The sketch panels help save production time as we see a visualisation of what we want to shoot and can place our scale model in the way we have drawn it to quickly get the shots that we need. The time that was saved can be spent on valuable shots or planning others shots as well. The visual effects as well that intend for use are using the software after effects to mask over...

Producing special effects for Strayed Above   When creating the special effects, we had to research the different types they were such as models and make up which was used on one of our character Kyle Black to show how the explosion impact has damaged him so we needed to research different types of make-up to find the right materials to have this effect. We used to learn many and tried many makeup effects such as scar wax and 3d gel. Fake blood was using gelatine, aloe Vera glycerine and mixing them two tighter to make coagulated blood. And a way of making fake tare able skin is by using tissue and    PVA glue this    was ripped and teared in the middle of to simulate the effect of a cut and the skin was coloured in with red lipstick and the fake blood which we made was placed and top and was spread. Underneath is the full method on how to create the skin of 3D gel and the equipment used. Equipment Aloe Vera Gel Water Dessert spoon ...

Applying Visual effects.  Here is a side by side capture of the footage of Crain looking at monitors with the use of visual effects and next to it is what it looked like before the effects were added.  This is footage of me creating and applying our visual to our final product such as making and composition to the footage. Captain Crain scene with the mask path over of the space backgrounds over the monitors by the use of the pen tool. The effect was created using After effects and the tools used were the pen tool to mask a path around the monitor and during the movement of Captain Crain. Same Captain Crain scene without the visual effects added (Applying visual effects through the pen tool and mask path to footage) The process of making a path around each monitor and placing different stock footage of space over each section on the monitor. As well moving the path on certain frames as Captain Crain blocks or covers some section of the monitor s...

Editing The footage was logged into rushes and was put into a document to be organised. This is done to see if the footage that we filmed was suitable for use for the final product.  The first page of logged rushes. The final page of logged rushes.  The final production of Strayed Above  The creation of the offline edit of Strayed Above  The offline edit includes footage which hasn't gone through after effects and have masks and composition added towards are put into a rough timeline of how long the official product would be. The strengths of using the post-production techniques are that they add a sense of believability towards the product as for the audience seeing a space background within a window seems like our actors are in space which in reality they are not this is seen in the final production at 0:53 where the characters are talking to one another while in the background on the window a space background is seen thro...
