P5-UNIT 17 RESUBMISSION
Producing special effects for Strayed Above
When creating the special effects, we had to research the different types they were such as models and make up which was used on one of our character Kyle Black to show how the explosion impact has damaged him so we needed to research different types of make-up to find the right materials to have this effect. We used to learn many and tried many makeup effects such as scar wax and 3d gel.
Fake blood was using gelatine, aloe Vera glycerine and mixing them two tighter to make coagulated blood. And a way of making fake tare able skin is by using tissue and PVA glue this was ripped and teared in the middle of to simulate the effect of a cut and the skin was coloured in with red lipstick and the fake blood which we made was placed and top and was spread.
Underneath is the full method on how to create the skin of 3D gel and the equipment used.
Equipment
Aloe Vera Gel
Water
Dessert spoon
Tea spoon
Foundation
Translucent powder
Method
One Dessert spoon of gelatin put in container.
1 dessert spoon of water
Tea spoon of glycogen.
Cream all three until it start to go pale.
Microwave for 10 seconds
Add body lotion
Add foundation and mix
Below is pictures of the process of making the effects using the tissue and PVA glue with the mixture of fake blood and red lipstick.
The scar wax is different to the 3D gel as it gets rid of the use of latex and the wax is applied directly to the skin and is moulded in to a scar type wound. The use of fake blood is still used but save time in the creation process. The scar wax was used in our production due to time constraints and was used effectively in our production.
Here is a rush footage of the make on Abu taher who play Kyle Black with the scar wax since due to time constraints caused us to use scar wax. The scar wax with a mixture of fake blood and lipsticks add the effect of bad laceration towards Kyle black forehead creating the effect of a injury towards the space member.
Above is an audio commentary and video of the creation of our spaceship which was nicknamed the SSU-317 the creation process used scissors, glue, hot glue gun, box knife and double-sided tape and the materials of the ship were plastic bottles and other recyclables. The creation of our spaceship was first designed on paper and when creating our spaceship, we used our concept art in front of us to create the piece of equipment and help keep the idea of our ship in place.
Above is a video of the spaceship model we created being filmed in front of a green screen. The green screen was later keyed out and replaced with stock footage of space through compositing the footage and creating a mask path around the ship. The result was a video of spaceship looking like it was flying through space.
