Exporting the Finished product


The final footage that was edited into the final product was exported into a file format of MP4. This was done as it is easy to distribute and the quality of the video is not compressed or adjusted as many online channels use mp4 files this makes sure the quality is at is best when streamed and there are a lot of features on screen at once the quality does not downgrade. As well the video not compressing the dimensions of the video do not change as well if down scaled it will be too blurry and the audience wouldn’t not watch the show because of this. If advertised as well a low quality opening due to file compression will make the audience think it is a low quality show and won’t be tuning in for the show because of this as well. 

 It is used for most online streaming videos and since this product is for BBC Three an online channel it is perfect for the format. As the visual and special effects are shown in detail and is not blurry for the audience ruining the whole show. For example, a MOV file can work on platforms but not as many as MP4 so to cover a wide range of audience’s software or how they will access this product a MP4 file will be the suitable option for the product to be exported in.


The film was exported using H.264 its similar to mp4 where the compression rate in which it is exported is better than it being exported in another format compared to MJPEG4 and others. It is smaller file size so it Is efficient compared to others as it saves time when exporting also it has the same or better picture quality so the efficiency does not have a low cost.

How meaning is created in Strayed Above The final media product is in line with client brief due to the visual and special effects. The visual effects applied which include creating a mask path around screens , windows as well as compositing footage to fit within a certain scale. The visual effects show the damage of the  infrastructure to the spaceship as the screens in the spaceship go dark or down meaning the signal has been lost or damaged as before it was working fine before the explosion. The special effects makeup used within the teaser scene as well show how the explosion of the ship has affected crew members such as Kyle Black and in which shows how life is on board the spaceship as communication systems have stopped working and the crew have taken damage. Unit 3 -M2

Resolving Legal and Ethical issues When creating this product legal and ethical issues have to be considered for. Such as the music for the show we cannot take a music track which is not royalty free as this is illegal. This will cause complications for the product which might halt the time of production and also might not be able to even screen the show if copyrighted music is heard without the use of a license. The plot and the story of the show can’t be taken from another SCI-FI show as well as this will be just copying ideas and would be stealing another IP’s content for our gain so we should be able to research and create our own ideas for the show while including the brief which was given towards us. The ethical issues that may arise is the use of our makeup since one of our actors is Muslim the use of proper gelatine will go against his beliefs and wouldn’t be allowed so a substitute gelatine will have to be used when creating our special effects.
