How meaning is created in Strayed Above



The final media product is in line with client brief due to the visual and special effects. The visual effects applied which includes creating a mask path around screens and windows and compositing footage to fit within a certain scale. The visual effects show the damage other infrastructure to the spaceship as the screens in the spaceship go dark or down meaning the signal has been lost or damage as before it was working fine before the explosion. The special effects makeup used within the teaser scene as well show how the explosion of the ship has affected crew members such as Kyle Black and in which shows how life is on board the spaceship as communication systems have stopped working and the crew have taken damage. The visual effects also create a sense of realism towards the final product as the visual effects display different space scenes and mask over windows to give the illusion that the characters are in space as we see stars and different galaxies on their screens and on their windows. Without the visual effects the believability of the characters being on board a spaceship is lost as windows are not showing the outside and screens a blank making it look unbelievable ruining the point of the show being in space.

The visual effect also go along side the plot of the teaser scene and again relating towards the brief as since the communication systems are down there are no visual effects present when Kyle Black and Captain Crain talk to each other only the visual effect of the space in the window showing the setting of the scene. The visual effects are mainly coloured blue or dark keeping of what we wanted and stated in our style and time section in our proposal as well as our mood boards.   

The scene shows Captain Crain looking out his spaceship again showing the setting and showing the audience what type of genre this is as SCI-FI elements are shown.

After the Explosion the communication systems are down this is mentioned in the brief and is shown here in the teaser scene.

One of thew scenes where the Spaceship is in Space traveling towards a planet without these scenes it would be hard for the audience to understand that the show is set in space.

This will also be on other social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube this will entice the audience and will make them go onto the BBC 3 platform and search and watch the show. This will be done by placing the opening sequence onto twitter and youtube and this will allow viewers to share the content to others thus gaining attraction. The stills from the opening sequence can also be used as posters to be placed on Facebook with the opening sequence underneath to let the audience know who is playing who. Unit 3 -M2

Resolving Legal and Ethical issues When creating this product legal and ethical issues have to be considered for. Such as the music for the show we cannot take a music track which is not royalty free as this is illegal. This will cause complications for the product which might halt the time of production and also might not be able to even screen the show if copyrighted music is heard without the use of a license. The plot and the story of the show can’t be taken from another SCI-FI show as well as this will be just copying ideas and would be stealing another IP’s content for our gain so we should be able to research and create our own ideas for the show while including the brief which was given towards us. The ethical issues that may arise is the use of our makeup since one of our actors is Muslim the use of proper gelatine will go against his beliefs and wouldn’t be allowed so a substitute gelatine will have to be used when creating our special effects.
