 Special effects

A special effect is an effect made with a physical object or model it does not require visual effects and or computer generated imagery. There a five types of special effects.

A mechanised prop such as animatronics is a machine or puppet created to look like a creature or someone else such as a robot or a giant sluggish alien. It can be controlled by an actor inside the suit or remote controlled from a controller.

Stunt props are also a form of special effects the props one example is a breakable bottle they are made of sugar glass a mould made out of a form of sugar it is used to simulate a real object being broken and is used to avoid injury but maintain the believability that is real glass that has shattered. They can also be breakable furniture and walls made out of balsa wood which is a lightweight material that can break easily with enough force fake furniture or walls are made out of this wood to be broken.

Scale models are models in detail to simulate or giant object or a type of vehicle such as a spaceship. It being used ca give a real life effect towards the object unlike a clean smooth outline from a visual effect.

Make up prosthetic's are used to show a form of injury or scaring on a face or on any area it is mainly created by latex and using paint, tissue. This gives the character using the make up further detail in their look and not making them look bland or dull. This can also effect the narrative as if a character gets hurt the audience will be looking for any form of scaring or injury.

Pyrotechnics is using an explosion or fire to add towards the scene. This is done by fuel fire or rigged explosives like a set charged or wire. It adds realism and believabilty depending on the film such as a war film or an action as if the audience see a bomb dropped on screen they would look forward to seeing the aftermath and the explosion that came after being dropped.

Terminator 2: Judgement day uses special effects with prosthetic's make up and pyrotechnics. For example, the final fight scene uses mixture of make-up and prosthetic's. At 2:15[1] The T800 is broken and hurt his arm has been torn off and his metal face is showing as it has been ripped off the skin this done by the use of latex, scar tissue, face paint, and contact lenses. The use of this make up enhances the film as the T800 is broken and is barely functioning he is exposed the way he is hurt is similar if a human character was hurt.

Pyrotechnics are also used in the truck chase[2] at 2:41 the truck has crashed and is leaking petrol and is sparked and is ignited. The truck being blown up is done with a with pyrotechnics and set charges at a controlled rate. This special effect is done to enhance the film as the level of detail the explosion has done which can and would kill any normal person is shown to show how powerful and strong the new terminator is. And this excites the audience as they get to see an explosion and don’t see many trucks crash and be destroyed like that in any normal day.

Stunt props are used in earlier scenes between the fight of the T800 and the T1000. At 2:31-2:36 fake walls are used to show the strength of the two terminators. The walls are made out of an easily breakable wood so when a heavy force is pushed against them they are easily broken. The effect done in the film enhance the content as it shows both Terminators are strong enough to withstand a force of being thrown against and wall but are also strong enough to bust through a wall.
